Description
Medical Thangka – Primary and Secondary Causes of Disease details the causes of particular diseases and disease categories. It classifies diseases according to their humoral nature. The size of this thangka is 74*90 cm.
Wind diseases are shown in the first section, indicated by the cock. The catalog of bile diseases begins with the image of a snake and that of phlegm diseases with a pig. Tumors are caused by an imbalance of all three touches of humor and are associated with a disparate set of other factors, including overwork – such as carrying rocks, shown here – as well as indigestion, childbirth, harmful demons, sitting on damp ground, and past deeds.
