Description

Naga Kanya Ritual Statue is made in Nepal by master statue artists. The weight of the statue is 2.03 kg and the size is 22 x 16 x 11cm.

The material used to make this statue is Brass. Naga Kanya means in Sanskrit the virgin, the maiden of the Nagas. Naga Kanya is usually seen as a very beautiful young girl in sited position who is holding precious jewels with her both hands in an offering posture. She has 5 headed snakes on top of her head like a crown and wings representing she has the ability to fly.

This image depicts a wonderful Buddhist story told in the Lotus Sutra’s XIIth chapter in which a Naga princess, daughter of the Ocean (Sagara) attains bodhicitta at the tender age of eight. The Nagini then presents the Buddha with a jewel reputed to be worth thousands of words in front of an unbelieving assembly of bodhisattvas (due to her youth and gender).

When the bodhisattvas told her that the Buddha accepted her diamond right away, she told them to keep an eye on her as she quickly became a Buddha.
