Milarepa is one of Tibet’s most well-known saints. With the help of his Guru, Marpa the Translator, he rose above the miseries of his younger life and began a solitary life of meditation until he had reached the pinnacle of enlightenment, never to be born again into the Samsara of worldly existence.
He undertook the most rigorous asceticism in order to reach the Buddhic state of enlightenment and pass on his accomplishments to the rest of humanity out of compassion for humanity.
His spiritual lineage was passed down to Gambopa and Rechung, his two most important disciples.
