Description
Anatomy – Blood Vessels Thangka is one of the many Tibetan medical thangkas that show medical illustrations of main blood vessels of human anatomy.
These educational tables were used as illustrations of a medical text (“The Four Tantras”) that originated in the 9th century on the basis of Indian and Chinese sources.
As a kind of illustrated encyclopedia, these pictures are still used in traditional Tibetan medical education. The illustrations show an extensive spectrum of medicine at that time.
This Thangka describes the indications and contraindication of compresses, fomentation, ointments, and minor surgery
