Tara has 21 manifestations that each have a specific purpose related to one of four colors. White symbolizes the act of pacifying, yellow is for increasing positive qualities, red is for overpowering external forces, and black is for wrath used for Enlightened purposes and using forceful methods when other means are not possible.. Pacification includes overcoming sickness, premature death, and obstacles to success. Yellow is for gaining peace, happiness, and success. Red is for removing obstacles to sickness and untimely death.

21 Tara Iconography and Mantra

The Tara thangkas originate from the ‘Prayers to the twenty-one Taras,’ which detail their individual characteristics, symbolic representations, rituals, and advantages.
