Iconography of Green Tara

Green Tara is depicted with a kind expression, seated on a white moon disk that represents a special restorative nectar linked to the naval chakra. Her right hand is elegantly lowered in the Varada mudra, a gesture of granting blessings.

Green Tara holds a blue lotus, also known as the ‘night lotus,’ in both hands. The term Utpala means ‘to burst open.’ In her left hand, she carries a stem with a fully bloomed flower and an unopened bud. The bent lower part of the stem signifies the root.
