The material used to make this mask is wood. The Peepal tree is often known as the ‘bodhi tree provides the wood for these masks.

This tree is revered in Nepal, Tibet, India, and throughout Asia, and it is famed for being the same species of tree that Lord Buddha obtained enlightenment under. As a result, the tree is only cut down after a ritual and on specified days of the year.
