Lord Avalokiteshvara’s wrathful manifestation is Hayagriva. Hayagriva comes in 108 different varieties. His specific talent is to heal ailments, particularly skin diseases, like leprosy, which the Nagas are thought to cause.
According to one Hindu narrative, Hayagriva was a collection of demons subjugated by Vishnu, while another version claims that Hayagriva was a Vishnu avatar. Hayagriva was advocated in Tibet by Buddhist teacher Atisha in particular. Hayagriva was revered by Tibetan horse dealers because he was thought to be able to scare away demons by neighing like a horse. When summoned, he heralds his arrival by neighing, a sound that pierces the air.
