Beyond the Silk and Book Roads
Announcing the publication of the eleventh volume in the Brill series, titled “Beyond the Silk and Book Roads: Rethinking Networks of Exchange and Material Culture.”
This book, edited by Michelle C. Wang and Ryan Richard Overbey, takes a fresh approach to Silk Road studies by examining the interconnectedness of material artifacts and manuscripts.
Traditionally, studies on the Silk Road have focused on these two aspects separately.
However, this interdisciplinary volume explores the transmission of culture and ideas across different regions, reevaluates the definition of a “book,” and investigates the shared networks of circulation between material artifacts and manuscripts.
Featuring contributions from international scholars in Buddhist studies, art history, and literary studies, the essays in “Beyond the Silk and Book Roads” offer new insights and perspectives in the field of Silk Road studies.
