About Bhikkhu Sujato

Sujato, also known as Ajahn Sujato or Bhikkhu Sujato, born Anthony Best, is an Australian Buddhist monk ordained into the Thai forest lineage of Ajahn Chah. Formerly associated with Theravāda Buddhism, Sujato has recently distanced himself from that label. Prior to his monastic life, he was a musician with the band Martha's Vineyard, touring with renowned acts like Simply Red and INXS. Sujato founded Santi Forest Monastery in 2003, later transforming it into a Bhikkhunī (Buddhist nun's) monastery. Co-founder of SuttaCentral, he relocated to Chimei to translate Early Buddhist texts before establishing Lokanta Vihara in Sydney. He advocates for engaged Buddhism and Bhikkhuni ordination, challenging traditional norms within the Sangha.
