About E. Gene Smith
E. Gene Smith was a scholar and founder of the Buddhist Digital Resource Center.
He studied Tibetan culture and Buddhism in Seattle from 1960 to 1964, supported by a Rockefeller Foundation grant.
Smith continued his studies in India from 1965, focusing on reprinting Tibetan texts. He worked with the Library of Congress, serving in India and later transferring to Indonesia and Cairo.
In 1997, he retired to consult for the Trace Foundation, co-founding the Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center in 1999.
Smith passed away on December 16, 2010, leaving a lasting impact on the preservation of Tibetan Buddhist literature.
