About Jack Kornfield

Jack Kornfield, born in 1945, is an American author and educator associated with the Vipassana movement within American Theravada Buddhism. He underwent training as a Buddhist monk in Thailand, Burma, and India under the guidance of renowned teachers such as Ajahn Chah and Mahasi Sayadaw. Since 1974, he has been teaching mindfulness meditation globally. In collaboration with Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein, Kornfield co-founded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts in 1975, and later established the Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California in 1987. Apart from his teaching activities, Kornfield has been involved in peace-building efforts, activism, teacher training, and has facilitated gatherings of Buddhist teachers, including the Dalai Lama.
