About Kevin Trainor

Professor Trainor is an expert in South Asian religious traditions, particularly Theravada Buddhism in Sri Lanka. 

He has a background in gender analysis and ritual studies. He earned an M.Div. in Church History from Union Theological Seminary, a Ph.D. in Religion from Columbia University, and a B.A. in Religion from Colgate University. He held a Fulbright Senior Scholar position in Sri Lanka during 1997-98 and was a Visiting Scholar at Cornell University in 2004-05. Additionally, he chaired the Religion Department at the University of Vermont from 2005-2016.
