Yamantaka is ‘The Destroyer or Slayer of Yama, the Lord of Death’, is a wrathful form of Manjushri.
The Yamantaka Tantras are part of the Father Tantra category in the Sarma tradition, which is known as the Anger class. It is believed that there are three forms of Yamantaka: Red Yamari, Black Yamari and Vajrabhairava.
Yamantaka is one of the eight deities of Kagyé, where he is referred to as Manjushri Body. The teachings associated with this form of Yamantaka involve the “four chakras”: secret or abiding chakra, chakra of existence, cutting chakra, and chakra of manifestation.
The Longchen Nyingtik describes the Yamantaka practice of Palchen Düpa as “Conquering Yama, Ruler of Death”.
