Description
The Dhammapada, a Translation is written by Ven. Thanissaro, Bhikkhu. The Dhammapada, an anthology of words attributed to the Buddha, has long been regarded as one of early Buddhist literature’s masterpieces. Scholars have just lately discovered that it is also one of the first masterpieces of the Indian Kavya, or belles lettres, tradition.
This translation is an attempt to render the lyrics into English in a way that is respectful to both the text’s traditions. Although it’s easy to think of these traditions as separate entities dealing with form (Kavya) and content (Buddhism), Kavya’s aspirations intended to unite form and content into a unified whole.
