Shares the Warmth of Compassion with Pomnyun Sunim in Korea
Earlier this month, Venerable Pomnyun Sunim joined a dedicated group of volunteers in Seoul.
Their purpose was to distribute charcoal briquettes to households in need, as South Korea prepares for another chilly winter.
Just 30 years ago, charcoal briquettes were the primary source of fuel for heating and cooking in Korean homes. Even today, many disadvantaged communities still depend on them.
JTS Korea, an international humanitarian organization established by Pomnyun Sunim, has been conducting a yearly program during winter to provide vulnerable communities with heating fuel.
This is especially crucial during the severe winter season when temperatures often drop below -10ºC.
On December 2nd, Pomnyun Sunim, along with JTS volunteers and a group of 140 individuals from the entertainment industry, gathered in Seoul’s Gangnam District to distribute briquettes to the residents of Guryong Village.
This village, which was established during the city’s rapid growth in the 1980s, is a shanty settlement that has been occupied ever since.
