Those who are devoted to religious practice have a different outlook than those who are not. Buddhists believe that life has a greater purpose than material possessions, power, and prestige, and that achieving a fortunate rebirth, freedom, and enlightenment are more important in the long run.
We strive to reduce and eventually eliminate afflictions that prevent us from fulfilling our spiritual purpose. To do this, we follow an ethical code set by our spiritual mentor and its corresponding precepts, which guide us in subduing our physical, verbal, and mental actions.
