About Arya Kshema

The Arya Kshema is a yearly event in the winter where nuns gather to study and practice Buddhism. It was started in 2014 by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, with the aim of improving the education of nuns and bringing it to the same level as that of monks.

The gathering is primarily for nuns within the Karma Kagyu lineage, but nuns from other Kagyu lineages and Tibetan Buddhist schools are also welcome.

The study program during the gathering is based on the same textbooks used by monks during their winter debate session, which were specially created by His Holiness and a team of scholars and students.
