About David Ryoe Matsumoto

Rev. Dr. David Ryoe Matsumoto, President Emeritus of the Institute of Buddhist Studies (IBS), served on the faculty from 1995 and as President from 2016 until his retirement in 2024. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Ryukoku University, and an M.A. from IBS. His research interests include Shin Buddhist doctrinal studies, theology of disability, hermeneutics, and the environment. Dr. Matsumoto is known for his kindness, dedication to Dharma, and contributions to Buddhist education and scholarship.
