Originally from Rochester, New York, USA, he pursued a Physics degree at Middlebury College and later worked as an engineer. His academic journey shifted towards Tibetan Buddhism, earning Masters and Doctorate degrees at the University of Saskatchewan under Herbert Guenther. A student of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu since 1982, Jim has resided in Western Massachusetts since 1989, contributing to translations, transcripts of retreats, and projects within the Dzogchen Community. He is also affiliated with the Ka-ter Translation Project since 2003.
