About Kate Lingley

Kate Lingley is an Associate Professor of Chinese Art History at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. Her research focuses on Buddhist votive sculpture during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, emphasizing the social history of religious art, especially in relation to gender and ethnic identity. She also explores the role of dress and textiles in medieval China. Lingley has published extensively, worked as an editor, and is currently working on a book about Buddhist women in medieval China and an edited collection on women in early Buddhism across Asia. She teaches courses on Chinese art history and European Middle Ages art.
