Micah Auerback
Micah Auerback is a faculty member in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan. His research primarily focuses on the modern era and encompasses topics such as the involvement of Japanese Buddhists in military and prison chaplaincy, contemporary Buddhist perspectives on interactions with the state and society, and the multifaceted figure Minakata Kumagusu. He is currently working on a book project that examines the evolution of Japanese narratives surrounding the Buddha Śākyamuni, tracing these changes from the Edo period to the postwar era.
