About Ram Dass
Ram Dass, born Richard Alpert in 1931, was a renowned American spiritual teacher, psychologist, and author. His seminal 1971 book, "Be Here Now," was instrumental in introducing Eastern spirituality and yoga to the West. Initially associated with Timothy Leary at Harvard University, their controversial research on psychedelic drugs led to their dismissal. Ram Dass's transformative journey to India in 1967 resulted in his becoming a devoted disciple of Neem Karoli Baba, earning him the name Ram Dass, meaning "Servant of God." Despite facing challenges, including a stroke in 1997, Ram Dass continued to teach and write, interpreting adversity as grace. He co-founded charitable organizations and traveled extensively, sharing his spiritual wisdom through talks and retreats. Until his passing in 2019, Ram Dass hosted annual retreats in Maui, leaving behind a profound and enduring legacy in the world of spirituality.
