About Scott Mitchell

Dr. Scott Mitchell has been a faculty member at the Institute of Buddhist Studies (IBS) since 2008 and currently serves as its president. 

He holds the position of IBS Rev. Yoshitaka Tamai Professor of Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Studies and Dean of Students and Faculty Affairs. 

Mitchell's research interests include Buddhism in Western contexts, Pure Land Buddhism, and media studies. 

His recent well-received publication, "The Making of American Buddhism," explores the role of Nisei in establishing Buddhism in the United States. 

With a Ph.D. from GTU, Mitchell is committed to upholding IBS's tradition of offering transformative Buddhist education.
