About Stephen Batchelor

In 1972, Stephen Batchelor left England for India in search of freedom and meaning.

He delved into Tibetan culture and Buddhism in Dharamsala, where he was inspired to become a monk.

After ordination and further studies, he explored Buddhist philosophy and meditation in Switzerland and South Korea.

Returning to England, he engaged with early Buddhist texts and worked as a prison chaplain.

His career took a significant turn with the success of "Buddhism without Beliefs" in 1997, which resonated with those questioning traditional Buddhism.

Today, Stephen resides in southwest France, focusing on philosophy and spirituality.
