About Thubten Ngawang

Venerable Thubten Ngawang, a Sramanera originally from Florida, encountered the Dharma in 2012 through Venerable Chodron’s book, "Open Heart, Clear Mind." After attending talks at Drepung Loseling Monastery’s Center for Tibetan Studies in Atlanta, he found refuge in Buddhism. Visiting the Abbey in 2014, he immersed himself in retreats and service, eventually joining as an anagarika. Transitioning to lay life in 2017, he later returned, realizing his dedication to Dharma. Ordained as a sramanera in 2022, he now contributes to the Abbey’s prison program, online education, and community service while drawing on his architectural background.
