About Thubten Tarpa

Venerable Thubten Tarpa, an American Bhikshuni, embraced Tibetan Buddhist practice in 2000, taking formal refuge. Since 2005, she has resided at Sravasti Abbey under Ven. Thubten Chodron's guidance. Ordained in 2006, Ven. Tarpa was the first to receive ordination at the Abbey. She attained Bhikshuni ordination at Hsi Lai Temple in 2008. Tarpa's principal mentors include the late H.H. Jigdal Dagchen Sakya and H.E. Dagmo Kusho, alongside teachings from Ven. Chodron's instructors. Formerly a physical therapist/athletic trainer for 30 years, she now oversees the Abbey's building projects alongside her monastic duties.
