Description
A Critical Analysis of the Jhanas in Theravada Buddhist Meditation is written by Henepola Gunaratana. Henepola Gunaratana’s work presents an analytical analysis of the Jhanas which are an important collection of meditative attainments in Theravada Buddhism’s contemplative practice. Despite their frequent prominence in the texts, Theravada academics are split on whether the Jhanas are required for Nibbana attainment.
The main goal of this dissertation is to figure out what role the Jhanas play in the Theravada Buddhist portrayal of the path to enlightenment.
