Description
A thangka artist from Nepal has hand painted a mandala of Chenrezig, also known as Avalokitesvara, on cotton canvas. Chenrezig is the most venerated Bodhisattva, representing the compassion of all Buddhas.
Chenrezig is depicted in the middle of the mandala. He is an enlightened being who has chosen to stay in this world instead of achieving nirvana, in order to help the living creatures on earth.

Iconography of Chenrezig
Chenrezig Tibetan Art is depicted in a variety of ways, with varying numbers of arms and faces, as well as different colors and decorations. He is usually shown seated on a lotus flower with a flat moon disc beneath him, symbolizing his perfect purity.
Two of his four arms are joined in the prayer position, each holding a wish-granting gem. In his other left hand, he holds a lotus flower and in his other right hand, there is a crystal mala which he is using to count the repetitions of his mantra.
