A thangka artist from Nepal has hand painted a mandala of Chenrezig, also known as Avalokitesvara, on cotton canvas. Chenrezig is the most venerated Bodhisattva, representing the compassion of all Buddhas.
Chenrezig is depicted in the middle of the mandala. He is an enlightened being who has chosen to stay in this world instead of achieving nirvana, in order to help the living creatures on earth.
