Description
Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of wisdom, is said to have journeyed from China to Nepal on a pilgrimage. It is believed that upon his arrival, the Kathmandu Valley was a vast lake.
He then used his flaming sword to cut a gorge that drained the lake, allowing people to inhabit the area. This is also where the Swayambhunath Stupa was constructed, which was built on the spot where the lotus flower settled.
