Iconography of Yellow Jambhala

Jambhala is greatly respected as a deity of wealth and prosperity. He is believed to be the incarnation of Buddha Ratnasambhava and is said to have the power to rid all six realms of poverty, while also increasing lifespan, wisdom, and morality. Vaisravana is thought to be an incarnation of one of the “Four Great World-protecting Heavenly Kings”. He is respected as a defender of good in Buddhism, and is praised for his benevolence and strong protection. It is believed that he lives in the northern area of the Four Heavens, on the fourth tier of Mount Sumeru in a crystal palace. Yellow Jambhala is known for his wisdom, gained from his many years of protecting the Buddhas. He is usually depicted with a yellow body, in a seated position with his right leg extended and left leg bent. He has one face and two arms, his left hand holding Nehulay, a mongoose that dispenses precious jewels, and his right hand holding a gem-shaped fruit and a lotus leaf.

In Tibetan Tantric depictions of Lord Vaisravana, the precious pagoda is replaced by a mongoose that emits various treasures. Additionally, Yellow Jambhala is usually shown seated on a lotus, sun disk, and moon disk.

Mantra of Yellow Jambhala
