Buddhist Bhutan Celebrates International Tiger Day

Known for its focus on Gross National over the of unrestricted capitalism, , a kingdom located in the , is also making progress in wildlife preservation.

The Bhutan Tiger Center, working in partnership with the Bhutanese government, has released their fourth Bhutan National Tiger Survey Report to mark International Tiger Day. This report shows a significant increase of 27% in the number of wild tigers living in Bhutan since 2015, with an estimated total of 131 adult tigers now living in the country.

Every year on July 29th, Global Tiger Day is celebrated to raise awareness about preserving tiger habitats and conserving the endangered species. This day was established in 2010 when 13 countries that are home to tigers made a joint pledge to increase their population.
