About Ann Shaftel
Accredited in 1997, Ann Shaftel is a conservator specializing in thangkas. As a Fellow of IIC and AIC, her illustrious career began in 1972, marked by formal training at ICCROM in 1974 and culminating in an MSc in Conservation from Winterthur in 1978. With an MA in Asian Art History, Ann has honed her craft over 53 years, including a formative 15-year apprenticeship with a Tibetan painting master. She serves as a sought-after consultant and conservator for Buddhist monasteries, major museums, and private clients worldwide, providing on-site expertise in preserving and restoring these invaluable cultural treasures.
