About Bihani Sarkar

Bihani Sarkar is a scholar of classical Sanskrit literature and pre-modern Indian history and religious traditions, originally from Calcutta and educated at Oxford. 

She is an expert in the politics, religions, and literature (poetry and drama) of India between the 2nd and 15th centuries CE. Bihani currently teaches Comparative Non-Western Thought at Lancaster University, and has previously lectured in Sanskrit at the Oriental Institute of Oxford. 

Her research and teaching experience has spanned universities in the UK and Europe. 

Her aim is to make early Indian Sanskrit texts and traditions accessible to all, regardless of skill level or prior knowledge, and to encourage students to approach them with modern and critical thinking.
