About Budapest Centre for Buddhist Studies

Although the BCBS was established in 2013, the university has a long-standing connection with Tibet. The first Tibetan-English dictionary and grammar book were compiled by Alexander Csoma de Kőrös, a Hungarian philologist and Orientalist, and Tibetan has been taught at ELTE since 1942. The main goal of the three BCBS projects is to enhance the fields of Buddhology and Tibetology at ELTE. This includes developing comprehensive educational programs like minors in Buddhism and Tibetan, a bachelor's degree in Tibetan, a master's degree in Buddhist Studies, and a PhD in Buddhist Philology.
