About Geshe Thubten Chonyi

Khen Rinpoche Geshe Thubten Chonyi was born in the Solu Khombu region of Nepal in 1962. At the age of 12, he joined Kopan Monastery and was ordained by Lama Zopa Rinpoche. 

Subsequently, he entered Sera Je Monastery in south India where he devoted himself to studying the great treatises of Buddhist philosophy for 18 years. 

Upon completion of his studies, Khen Rinpoche was awarded the highest Tibetan Buddhist doctorate, Geshe Lharampa, in the Gelug monastic tradition. 

Since 1999, he has been the Resident Teacher of Amitabha Buddhist Centre, providing spiritual guidance and teaching on all aspects of Buddhist philosophy to numerous students. 

In July 2011, Khen Rinpoche was appointed as the abbot of Kopan Monastery and Nunnery in Nepal.
