Jay Lazar Garfield is an American philosopher specializing in Tibetan Buddhism, the philosophy of mind, cognitive science, and more. He holds the Doris Silbert Professorship at Smith College, and teaches at the University of Melbourne, Harvard Divinity School, and the Central University of Tibetan Studies. Garfield studied under Wilfrid Sellars and Annette Baier at the University of Pittsburgh, and with Geshe Yeshe Thabkhas in India. He is the editor-in-chief of Sophia and serves on various editorial boards.
