About Robert Sharf
Robert Sharf is a Professor of Buddhist Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
He holds degrees in Religious Studies and Chinese Studies from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from the University of Michigan.
His research focuses on medieval Chinese Buddhism, particularly Chan Buddhism, and also encompasses Japanese Buddhism, Buddhist art, philosophy, ritual studies, and the study of religion.
He has authored books and served as the Chair of the Center for Buddhist Studies at UCB.
Prior to his current role, he taught at McMaster University and the University of Michigan.
