The Wings to Awakening – An Anthology from the Pali Canon is translated and explained by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. The Wings to Awakening is the first anthology of the Buddha’s teachings to be organized around the collection of teachings that the Buddha himself indicated were the essence of his message: the Wings to Awakening. The information is divided into three sections, each of which is preceded by a lengthy introduction.
The Introduction attempts to describe the concept of awakening in order to provide a clear picture of the direction in which the Wings to Awakening are heading. This is accomplished by examining the Buddha’s stories of his own Awakening, with a particular focus on how the concept of skilled Kamma shaped both the “how” and “what” of that Awakening: Only through cultivating skilled Kamma was the Buddha able to achieve Awakening, and this is how he did it.
