Ayya Khema Bhikkhuni to be Honored in Online Event
On August 27th, Dhammadharini, a female monastic community in Penngrove, California, will be hosting an online event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Ayya Khema’s birth. Entitled “Honoring Ayya Khema’s Legacy on her 100th Birth Anniversary,” the program will feature monastics, meditation teachers, and members of the Sakyadhita International Association of Buddhist Women.
The gathering will take place on Zoom between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (2 a.m. to 5 a.m. Coordinated Universal Time). Monastics attending include Ajahn Nissarano from Newbury Monastery in Australia, Ayya Dhammananda from Vietnam (formerly of Ayya Khema International Meditation Centre Sri Lanka), Ayya Nirodha from Santi Forest in Australia, Kosan Carla Callahan, and others.
On the 100th anniversary of her birth, Dhammadharini is hosting a special program to commemorate and pay tribute to the late, highly respected Ayya Khema, who was ordained as a bhikkhuni in 1988. Many practitioners, particularly female monastics, have been deeply inspired by her. Ven. Tathaloka Mahatheri will be leading the event.
