Over the course of a two-day conference, Dhamma teachers from different schools such as Theravada, Mahayana, and the Nalanda tradition (Vajrayana), along with scholars, discussed the topic of “Life, Death and Rebirth”.
The main focus was on how to live mindfully and make the most out of life, dealing with illness calmly and without any regrets, and exploring the concept of the afterlife.
The topic of death and dying is central to all spiritual traditions and can be considered the reason for the existence of religions.
The gathering provided a platform to demonstrate the increased understanding between various schools of thought on this important subject within the Buddhist worldview.
On the first day, there were three sessions featuring senior Buddhist leaders such as Ajahn Brahm, Guo Huei, Thubten Chodron, Buddharakhita, and Ayya Santini.
They spoke on various topics, with Ajahn Brahm, the patron of the BF, delivering a keynote address that set the tone for the rest of the sessions.
Later, Yongey Mingyur, an esteemed Vajrayana master known for his talks on death and living a meaningful life, gave a significant talk.
The next Global Conference on Buddhism, the 13th edition, is planned to be held in either Malaysia, Sri Lanka, or India.
