It has been suggested that Tantra is only 1000 years old and is not related to the much older yogic tradition.
However, this view is challenged by the fact that Tantra may be the origin of all the yogic paths and philosophies which were passed down orally in Shaivism and outside Vedic society at the beginning of Indian civilization.
