Tibetan yogi Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche’s passing into Tug-dam
On June 22, 2024, the revered Tibetan yogi and scholar, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, passed away at the age of 90, entering the profound meditative state known as ‘Tug-dam’. The announcement of his passing was withheld until today, in accordance with the instructions of the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, to allow his meditative state to dissolve undisturbed.
Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche was known for his deep spiritual practice and extensive teachings within the Karma Kagyu lineage.
Born in 1935 in Gomde Nangchen, Tibet, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche spent his life as a wandering yogi, meditating in caves and hermitages across Tibet and Bhutan.
He received teachings from prominent masters and became renowned for his scholarship and realization of the teachings. His profound connection with the Karmapas, from the 16th to the current 17th Karmapa, underscored his role as a teacher and guide within the Kagyu tradition.
The nunnery of Osel Karma Thegchog Ling in Boudhanath, Nepal, where Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche spent his final years, shared the news of his passing, highlighting his contributions to the preservation and transmission of Tibetan Buddhist teachings.
His passing marks the end of an era for his disciples and followers, who remember him fondly for his wisdom, teachings, and embodiment of the yogic tradition.
