2023 International Bhikshuni Varsa at Sravasti, India
The Venerable Thubten Chonyi, Venerable Thubten Damcho, and Venerable Tenzin Tsepal of Sravasti Abbey participated in the International Bhikshuni Varsa held in Sravasti, India, from late July to mid-September 2023.
His Eminence Drikung Kagyu Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche initiated and supported the international bhikshuni varsa hosted at his Great Sravasti Buddhist Cultural Centre, located close to the Jetavana Monastery, a holy place where the Buddha spent 25 summers giving teachings and preaching more than 800 sutras.
For a period of six weeks, 128 nuns from various countries such as Bhutan, Nepal, India, Vietnam, Taiwan, and some Western nations came together to learn and practice together.
Out of these, 41 of them had received the historic bhikshuni ordination in Bhutan in 2022.
