Challenging Emotions in Today’s world at the India Habitat Centre
At the India Habitat Centre, Mr. Abhijit Halder, Director-General of the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), was the Chief Guest at a conference focusing on “Challenging Emotions in Today’s world; – Mechanism, Challenges and Solutions”, which was organized by Tibet House, New Delhi with Ven Geshe Dorji Damdul.
He discussed the potential overlap between Buddhism and science, particularly in the areas of neuroscience, psychology, consciousness and quantum theory.
He also pointed out the differences between the two, noting that Buddhism emphasizes ethics and enlightenment, while science is based on uncovering the laws and principles of reality.
Mr. Halder’s talk focused on the exploration of emotions and personal well-being. He highlighted the difficulty of defining emotions due to their subjective nature, and compared them to the well-being of individuals.
Buddhism’s unique take on emotions was discussed, viewing them as “vedana.” This philosophy suggests that emotions are directed more towards internal feelings than external factors.
Mr. Halder highlighted the role of Buddhist principles in managing emotions, suggesting that one can choose to express or suppress them.
