International Academic Conference on Chinese Buddhism in Singapore
The 2024 Annual International Academic Conference on Chinese Buddhism will be held in Singapore from August 24-25.
The conference is a collaboration between Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery, the Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore, the Institute of Ethics and Religious Studies (IERS) at Tsinghua University in China, and the FROGBEAR Project at the University of British Columbia in Canada.
The focus of this year’s conference is “Chinese Buddhist Rituals and Spiritual Life in Asia”.
Buddhist rituals play a crucial role in expressing the religious beliefs and feelings of Buddhists.
Through physical and intuitive ceremonies, followers can understand the teachings and values of Buddhism, nurture their inner selves, and help promote and strengthen their faith.
Additionally, these rituals serve as a way for the monastic community to connect with their followers, fostering closer relationships among Buddhists and creating a sense of unity within the Buddhist community.
The rituals of Chinese Buddhism are influenced by the principles and ceremonial practices of Buddhism, which originated from ancient Indian customs and traditional Chinese folk traditions.
These rituals have developed alongside the growth of Buddhism in Chinese culture and have become widely practiced in society.
As Chinese Buddhism continues to spread, its rituals have become an important aspect of spiritual life in Asian societies, playing a significant role in the overall advancement of Asian civilizations.
