The Sujata Academy Project nestled in the heart of Dungeshwari in India
The Sujata Academy Project, nestled in the heart of Dungeshwari, Bihar, stands as a symbol of hope and compassion in India.
Established by the Venerable Pomnyun Sunim, founder of the Jungto Society, this project marks its 30th anniversary amidst a pilgrimage dedicated to following the footsteps of the Buddha.
Noteworthy is the diverse participation in this year’s pilgrimage, symbolizing unity across borders and cultures.
Named after Sujata, who famously provided sustenance to Siddhartha Gautama, the academy embodies the spirit of giving back to the community.
Providing free education from kindergarten to secondary level, alongside adult literacy classes and skills training, it fosters empowerment and social inclusion. Students engage in community service, teaching kindergarteners and assisting at the Jivaka Hospital, instilling values of altruism and reciprocity.
Operated by the Join Together Society (JTS), the academy exemplifies engaged Buddhism, striving to alleviate hunger, illiteracy, and disease.
Despite challenges JTS remains steadfast in its mission to empower marginalized communities towards a brighter future.
Under the leadership of Dharma teacher Doyeon Jang, the Sujata Academy Project continues to inspire through its dedication to hope, compassion, and transformative change.
