About Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery

At the request of her Teacher, the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche, Jetsunma had the ambition to create a Nunnery that would give young nuns of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage the chance to reach their intellectual and spiritual potential after centuries of being overlooked, as well as to restore the Togdenma (yogini) tradition at the Nunnery. This Nunnery was named ‘Dongyu Gatsal Ling’ by His Eminence the 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche Shedrup Nyima, which translates to “Garden of the Authentic Lineage”. The name was chosen in honor of the previous Khamtrul Rinpoche, who was Tenzin Palmo’s personal Guru, and was called Dongyu Nyima.
