About Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment

The Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment, highly revered by both the Huayan and Zen schools of Mahāyāna Buddhism, is believed to have originated in China. 

It is divided into twelve chapters discussing meditation practice and addresses topics such as ignorance, sudden and gradual enlightenment, and original Buddhahood. 

This text aimed to provide clarity on doctrine and meditation for early Chan school practitioners. 

Zongmi's 9th-century Great Exegesis on the Sutra of Complete Enlightenment is considered the most significant commentary on this sutra.
